John R. McIlveen, 72

John Robblee McIlveen, 72, lifelong resident of  the Fitchburg area died Thursday 
after a brief battle with cancer. John is survived by his loving girlfriend Susan
Vandermark,  son Michael McIlveen, daughter Sarah A. McIlveen and his
grandchildren, John and Austin McIlveen, Ryan and Eliza Leavitt and Joshua
Matthews.
John was born in Leominster, son of John R. and Mary Doris (Haley) McIlveen. A
member of the Leominster class of  1962, John would spend much of the 60's and
70's playing drums for area bands. John joined Alcoholics Anonymous in 1975 and
remained sober for the rest of his life. During that time he sponsored and mentored
countless others on their path to sobriety. He loved boxing and expanded on that by
becoming a licensed official for U.S.A. Boxing of Central New England. 
Funeral services with military honors will be held on Friday October 14, at 1:00
P.M. at the Massachusetts Veterans Cemetery 111 Glenallen St. Winchendon, Ma.
01475.  Friends and family are encouraged to gather from 3 to 5 P.M. at Sundial
Apts. in Fitchburg to celebrate his life. In lieu of flowers the family will be collecting
donations to benefit U.S.A.B.N.E. Bosk Funeral Home 85 Blossom St. is assisting the
family
