Edith (Edie) Emma (Shippling) Freeburg, 87 of Leominster, former longtime resident of Ashby and Fitchburg, died peacefully at Golden Living Center in Fitchburg. Edith was born in Johnsonburg, PA, one of seven children to Adolph and Luise (Granitza) Shippling. She graduated from Johnsonburg High school in 1948 and moved to the Fitchburg area in 1965. She was an active member of Emanuel Lutheran Church for over 40 years, proudly working with the Altar Guild, social events and fundraising. She worked as a secretary at New England Business Systems in Groton and the former Herbert Lipton Center in Fitchburg, retiring in 1995.
Edie was loved for her sparkling personality, sense of humor and kindness. She leaves her daughter Karen Eline and 3 grandchildren of Framingham, her sister Ethel Kanski of Johnsonburg and brother Myles of St, Mary's Pennsylvania. Edie is preceded in death by her sons Darryl James and Donald Nels and by her brothers, Richard, Alfred, Otto of Pennsylvania and Heiny of Maryland.
Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation from 2 to 5 P,M. on Saturday August 19, in the Bosk Funeral Home 85 Blossom St. Fitchburg, where a brief service is scheduled for 3pm. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Emmanuel Lutheran Church Memorial Fund 1200 John Fitch Highway Fitchburg, MA.
