Sumner W. Goff, 86,
World War ll Navy Veteran

Sumner W. "Sub" Goff, 86, died Tuesday November 5,  in Fitchburg after an
illness. Sumner was born on Fitchburg, October 4, 1927, the son of George
H. and  Mildred L. (Holt) Goff and was raised in Fitchburg and lived in
Ashby.

Sumner enlisted in the U.S. Navy on October 4, 1944 his  seventeenth
birthday and served honorably for two years aboard the USS Vesole in the
Pacific Theatre. Vesole ranged the China coast, making frequent visits at
Tsingtao and Shanghai and also calling  at the Japanese ports of Tokyo,
Kure and Yokosuka. As a result of his service, Sumner was awarded the
World War ll Victory Medal, American Theatre Medal, and Asiatic- Pacific
Theatre Medal.

Sumner was employed at the former Genetral Electric Co. in Fitchburg as a
pipefitter for 36 years. He manufactured Twistons Line Sinkers for nearly
half a century, having taken over the business from his father who started
it. He was a member of Rollstone Congregational Church.

Sumner leaves 3 sons,Robert Goff and his wife Carrie of North Hampton,
N.H., Richard Goff and his wife Christina of Burke, VA., and Raymond Goff
of Belchertown, MA. Grandchildren, Linda, Michelle, Shanon, Mikayla,
Kirsten, Kaitlyn and Jillian. Nine great grandchildren and six great great
grandchildren.  He also leaves three nieces, Linda, Karen and Donna

Sumner was predeceased by his sister, Beverly Gravel and her husband Chick as well as a grandaughter Patty and a grandson David Goff.

Calling hours for Sumner will be held on Saturday November 9, from 9:30
A.M. to 11:00 A.M. followed by a service at 11:00 A.M. in the Bosk Funeral
Home 85 Blossom St. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Forest Hill
Cemetery.
