Richard D. Bickford, 83, life long resident of Ashburnham, died Wednesday
evening at home after a lengthly illness with his family at his bedside.
Richard was born in Ashburnham September 10, 1930, the son of Robert
W. and Florence A. (Whitney) Bickford. He graduated from Cushing Academy
in 1948 and was a member of the Alumni Association.
Upon graduation, he enlisted into the U.S. Air Force and served honorably
for 4 years with the 804th Motor Vehicle Squadron at Hunter AFB in
Savannah, Ga.. He was employed with the U.S. Postal Service for 34 years
and retired as Postmaster in October 1988. He was an avid fisherman and
was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Fitchburg.
Richard leaves his loving wife of 63 years, Faith (Peabody) Bickford, they
were married August 12, 1950. Three sons, Richard E. Bickford of Rancho
Santa Margarita, Ca. Bruce R. Bickford and his wife Deanna of Chelmsford and David A. Bickford of Ashburnham. His daughter, Priscilla B. Glasson and her husband Tim of Athol. Seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
Funeral services for Richard will be held on Wednesday November 13, at
11:00 A.M. in the Bosk Funeral Home 85 Blossom St. Fitchburg. Burial with
military honors will follow in New Cemetery, Ashburnham. In lieu of
flowers, contributions may be made to the Make A Wish Foundation One
Armory Square Springfield, Ma.01105.
