Raymond Wallace Carl Klingenberg, 88, long time resident of Ashburnham,
died peacefully Saturday June 8, at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston after an
illness.
Raymond was born in Fitchburg December 8, 1924, the son of Herman and
Flore (Goerner) Klingenberg. He graduated from Fitchburg High School in
1943. Ray enlisted in the Navy in September, 1942 and did not graduate
with his class. He received his diploma in a special ceremony that was held
at the State House in Boston along with other military personnel, who had
enlisted before their graduation.
Ray served in the Navy from September 14,1942 to January 8, 1946. He
was the ship's cook 2nd class and served aboard the USS Parker DD604.
He was awarded the World War ll Victory Medal, American Theatre w/one
bronze star, European African Middle Eastern w/4 bronze stars.
Raymond was employed at Fitchburg Gas & Electric for 38 years. He
served as the Union Steward . He was a memberof the Ashburnham Police
Department for 22 years. He was a member of the Council on aging, the
Forever Young Club. He was a former Boy Scout and Cub Scout leader.
Ray enjoyed Cape Cod vacations and was an avid reader. He was a
member of the Ashburnham Community Church.
Raymond's wife of 58 years Margaret C. (Briggs) Klingenberg, died May 21,
2005. Ray leaves his son and daughter-in-law Kent W. and Pamela
Klingenberg of Ashburnham; his daughter Dale M. Flathers of Fitchburg .
He also leaves his grandchildren Amy Ramos wife of Julio Ramos,
Lindsay Flathers and fiance Jay Friend, Joshua Klingenberg and Timothy
Klingenberg and Petty Officer 1st class Jonathan Klingenberg U.S. Navy
Submarine USS Rhode Island. Ray also leaves his great grandchildren
Emily Flathers and Grayson Matthew Ramos.
A memorial service with Military Honors.will be held on Friday June 14, at
11 A. M. in the Ashburnham Community Church. In lieu of flowers,
contributions in his memory may be made to Gordon Erickson Fire
Rescue, care of the Ashburnham Fire Rescue. 99 Central St. Ashburnham,
Ma. 01430 or to the American Heart Association 20 Speen St. Framingham,
