Mary Ellen (Paramo) Camacho

Mary Ellen Camacho, 62, died Monday at St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester after an extended illness. Mary was born in Chicago, IL., daughter of Jesse Paramo and Dolores Miller. Mary was employed at the Arc of Opportunity in Fitchburg and devoted her life to Human Services for over twenty-five years. She worked in a variety of roles, but was always passionately dedicated to human rights and was a tireless advocate for the individuals she served. Her commitment to their full inclusion in the community was legendary. 

Mary leaves her sons James Rodriguez Jr. and his wife Jackie, Michael Paramo and his wife Angiebel, and Matthew Diaz Sr. and his wife Angela. Her daughters Fatima Rivera and her husband Angel, Mary Celeste Vargas, Jescelia Mitchell, Celydia Mitchell, and Rita Mitchell. Her sisters, Michelle Gilbert, Victoria Swanson and Linda Bradley. She leaves twenty-two grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and her best friend Babs. 

Mary was a beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, “mother of the heart”, sister, friend and so much more to all who have been blessed with her love and care. Many of her colleagues and people she supported became part of her family.

In her personal life, Mary was someone who took in anyone in need and did her best to help them. Lots of her children’s friends considered her a “second Mom” who has been there for them many times over the years. 

Her proudest achievement is the children she raised. They, along with her grandchildren and great grandchildren were her greatest joy. 

A visitation period and services for Mary will be held on Saturday August 25 from 5 to 8 P.M. Following cremation, burial will be in St. Bernard Cemetery.
