Glenn A. Atkinson, 85, passed away Saturday August 15, at Health Alliance Leominster Hospital after a brief illness with his loving family at his bedside. Glenn was born in Fitchburg, son of Arthur and Florence (Griffin) Atkinson and was a lifelong resident. He attended local schools and at age 17 enlisted in the U.S.Navy and served honorably for four years. He served proudly on the USS Macon CA 132. Glenn was employed as a papermaker at the former James River, Weyerhauser Mill #1. where he proudly retired. Glenn's wife of 51 years Lorna A. (Snow) Atkinson died July 9, 2003. He leaves his daughters and sons-in-law Jill B. Gauvin and Dennis, of Fitchburg, Kim Marie Hammad and Nawwaf of Cleveland, Ohio and Joy Dawn Cyr of Gardner. Also his brother and sister-in-law Philip Atkinson and Gisele of Gardner and his sister and brother-in-law Sharon Giles and John of Florida. He also leaves his grandchildren Dina, Adam, Nidhal, Tommy, Kyle and Heidi. His great grandchildren Leila, Zain,Kaden, Amanda, Matthew, Amir, Alia, Scott and Jordan. Glenn's son Scott Robert died September 6, 1977 and his brother Donald and his sister Lois Parrish also predeceased him.
