David Ellis Blomquist, 73, of Fitchburg Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on Tuesday February 23, 2016 at Health Alliance Hospital in Leominster, MA after complications from pneumonia.

Born in Fitchburg, MA on May 29, 1942, he was the oldest of three sons to Ellis Blomquist and Mary (Mager) Blomquist.

David was a graduate of Fitchburg High School's class of 1960. He went on to attend Worcester Junior College and later Mount Wachusett Community College where he was awarded a degree in Electronics Engineering and was a member of the graduating class of 1975.

David served in the U.S. Navy from 1961 to 1967 during which time he attended the U.S. Naval School of Music and was a member of the U.S. Navy Concert Band and marching band.

David's love for and education in music, specifically the violin, began during his youth and continued throughout his lifetime. He was a member of the F.H.S. Orchestra, the U.S. Navy Concert Band, Symphony Pro Musica and played in the orchestra for many theatrical productions with The New Players Theater Guild and other production companies, as well as numerous quartets and quintets.

He was a very active member in his church community donating much of his time to events and improvements at the First Parish Unitarian Universalist Church including playing his violin at coffee house concerts, Christmas concerts, fundraisers and the like. David was a driving force in the fund raising and restoration project of the beautiful pipe organ that adorns the main congregational room as well as many building improvements to the church throughout his life.

David's biggest joys in life were spending time with his family and his church community, playing and listening to music and helping to make the lives of those around him better. His last musical endeavors included traveling to the homes of the elderly, the less fortunate and anyone who needed or welcomed the uplifting gift of music with his dear friend and pianist Tina Lavigne, to bring a little peace, happiness and serenity to their lives.

A dedicated and hard worker his whole life, David had an extensive work history working with such companies as Foster Grant, General Electric, Fitchburg State College, River's Communications, Discom, Nextel, DTC Communications and Columbia Electrical Contractors.

He is survived by his wife of 29 years Marguerite (A. Thompson) of Fitchburg, his brother John of Fitchburg, his brother Paul and wife Denise of Wells, ME, his son Daniel Sr. and his wife Laurie of Hubbardston, his first wife and Dan's mother Peggy (Dyer) MacMunn of Lancaster, his step-daughter Alicia Kiefer and husband Ron of Worcester, his step-daughter Mary and husband Paul of Gardner, his step-son Robert and wife Mickey of Winchendon, his nephew Terrence and wife Nichole of Shrewsbury, PA. His grandchildren are Daniel Blomquist Jr., Davin Blomquist and Maija Blomquist all of Hubbardston. His step-grandchildren are Ashely Marie and Ronny Kiefer of Worcester, Felicia Lee and husband Michael of Winchendon, Anthony Kelly of Gardner, Chad Kelly of Gardner, Calista Howden and Robbie Howden of Fitchburg. He is also survived by many great grandchildren, great nieces and great nephews.

The family would like to thank the Doctors, Nurses and staff at Health Alliance Hospital in Leominster for making David's last moments as comfortable as possible and for allowing the family to be by his side during his passing.
