CINCINNATI, OH – Charles L. Bilionis, formerly of Fitchburg, died Thursday, May 21, 2015 in Cincinnati. He was 87 Charles was born in Fitchburg on June 3, 1927, a son of the late Louis K. and Bessie (Mouroutsos) Bilionis.
He was raised in Fitchburg, graduated from Fitchburg High School, and served in the Counter Intelligence Corps of the United States Army in Europe at the conclusion of WWII. After his honorable discharge in 1947, Charles continued his education at the University of Vermont and Fitchburg State College, receiving bachelor’s and master’s degrees.Charles taught math and science in the Townsend and Leominster public schools for 37 years.His entrepreneurial passion led him to pursue business activities at the same time, including a neighborhood grocery that he owned and operated in the 1960s and 1970s.
Charles relished people, loved his community, and believed in service. He was District Governor of the Order of AHEPA (American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association) and an active member of Rotary International. A board member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Fitchburg,Charles also served on numerous civic boards and commissions.
Charles leaves his wife of 60 years, Angela (Despotopulos) Bilionis; a brother Angelo L.Bilionis, and his wife, Nona R. Bilionis; a sister, Helen B. Koules, and her husband, Steve A.Koules; a son, Louis D. Bilionis and his wife, Ann Hubbard; a daughter, Lisa B. Long, and her husband, Richard W. Long; three grandchildren, Nicholas, Andrew, and Graciela; four greatgrandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Charles's life by gathering for calling hours at HolyTrinity Greek Orthodox Church, 1319 Main Street, Fitchburg on Saturday, May 30, from 10 to11:30 am. A funeral service will be held immediately thereafter, and burial will follow in ForestHill Cemetery, Fitchburg.
