Alfred A. Hirsch, 89

December 8, 1925 - November 18, 2015

Alfred A. Hirsch, 89, of Lunenburg, died peacefully at home after an illness, with his son present at his bedside.
 Al was born in Fitchburg, the son of Adolphus G. and Esther Belle (Haase) Hirsch, and lived in Lunenburg all his life.

He joined the Merchant Marines in the early days of World War II, after which he joined the US Navy serving from 1943 to 1945. While in the Navy, he was involved  in underwater demolitions and  later served with the Sea Bees in the Pacific theatre. After his discharge from the Navy, Al  started his own business, working as excavation contractor.

Alfred's wife, Lillian M. (Schaffner) Montuor iHirsch died in 1998. He leaves his son, Dennis Hirsch of San Diego, CA, his daughter, Esther Somari of  Ontario, CA; two sisters, Lucy Hanson and Lillian Grant both of Wilmington, NC; four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Al was predeceased by his brother Robert and sister Doris Barker.

Following cremation, graveside services will be held on December 2, at 11:00 A.M. in Forest Hill Cemetery, Fitchburg.Bosk Funeral Home, 85 Blossom St., Fitchburg is assisting the family.
