Cynthia Constance ”Connie” Ferris passed away  peacefully on August 11, 2019,at River Terrace Nursing and Rehabilitation, Lancaster, MA.  She was 98 years old.  Born on January 20, 1921 in Fitchburg to John E. and Ida (Piispanen) Ferris, Connie was one of seven siblings.  She graduated from Fitchburg High School in 1938 and was bookkeeper for Robert Lufkin at the famous Ye Old Oyster Bar on Prichard Street in Fitchburg. She was briefly employed by Doehla Greeting Cards in Fitchburg and Nashua, NH, but spent most of her professional years as an executive secretary for General Electric’s engineering division at the Fitchburg plant.

Connie never married and at an early adult age was welcomed into the home of her sister, Marjorie Davies, and her husband, Franklyn and their daughters.  She remained with them until their deaths in 2000 and 2004 caring for them in their later years.

She was especially fond of her many nieces and nephews.  She had a generous, caring heart and lots of love to go around.  She valued education and learning often taking night classes to learn a new discipline.  Connie was very interested in learning to speak Finnish – her mother’s native tongue.   She traveled to Finland to meet family and once to Spain to put her Spanish classes to the test!  During World War II she and several of her friends were hostesses at the USO.  When still a young woman, Connie belonged to the Fitchburg YMCA where she swam, exercised, practiced yoga and belly dancing – moves she would often revive for family and friends!

She is survived by her nieces: Carol Davies Progin of Gardner, MA, Sandra Wilson Joplin of Huntsville, Alabama, Jane Sumner of Fitchburg, MA, Cynthia Alzapiedi of New Ipswich, NH, Leslie Proctor from Florida and Susan Davies MacPhee of Chocorua, NH.  Also by nephews: Leonard Ferris of Las Vega, NV, Daniel Ferris of Fitchburg, MA, Stephen Progin of Ashburnham, MA, Richard Wilson of Bangor, ME, Howard Sumner of Rindge, NH, Mark Sumner of Ashby, MA, Brian Sumner of Ashburnham, MA, and many, many great nieces and nephews.

Connie is pre-deceased by her parents, her brothers: John, Alexander, Rodney, and Raymond; her sisters: Marjorie Davies and most recently, Althea P. Sumner of Fitchburg.

A private family gathering will honor Connie; burial will be a Forest Hill Cemetery, Fitchburg, MA, next to her mother, father and brother, John.  Gifts in her memory may be made to Beacon Hospice, 36 William Street, Leominster, MA 01453.
